Design & Technology
Design and make a name plaque for your bedroom door - using CAD/CAM
Pupils have covered how to use Techsoft 2D design software in Technology for all
units in Y9 and during the making of the clock in Y8. The DT computer room and
AWC have this software which pupils can use after school and at lunchtime.
The finished size of plaque must be no more than 50mmx200mm.
Pupils should create the lettering using Techsoft 2D and save their work to a
pen drive. Their DT teacher will then help them use the vinyl cutter to cut out
their design in sticky back vinyl.
Pupils can also design the main shape of plaque using Techsoft 2D. The plaque
will be cut out of acrylic plastic using the laser cutter. Pupils should save
their work to a pen drive and ask their DT teacher to help them cut it out.
Pupils
identified as gifted and talented in design and technology at KS 3 have the
opportunity to be fast tracked to GCSE. Pupils are offered GCSE courses in
Textiles, Graphics and Resistant Materials.
