Introduction
The Science Faculty has seven purpose built and well equipped science laboratories. The eleven specialist science teachers are supported by a team of three science technicians. All the labs are equipped with interactive white boards which pupils can clearly see from any location enabling a safe environment to both observe and carry out experiments. All pupils study science throughout their five years at the school.
Aims
- To maintain and/or stimulate pupil curiosity, interest and enjoyment in science.
- To employ teaching methods and resources that allows all pupils to have equal access to science and to experience success and enjoyment in their science work.
- To enable pupils to be familiar with a body of scientific knowledge, principles and vocabulary.
- To enable pupils to see science in the context of a wider body of knowledge and skills.
- To promote an awareness of the usefulness and limitations of scientific methods.
- To enable pupils to be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- To develop an awareness in pupils of the implications of science (past and present) for the individual, the community and the environment.
- To enable pupils to become confident citizens in a technology based society, and to make informed decisions on matters of scientific importance.
- To Emphasize the interdependence of science with citizenship issues. E.g. social, economic, technological, ethical and cultural factors.
